Though Lovers be Lost

May 31, 2007 by admin

The moment you read the very first post of Though Lovers Be Lost you can spot a winner. It’s a fairly new blog, but surprisingly filled with posts, and the title is symbolically explained so no one has to wonder about anything. “Though lovers be lost love shall not; And death shall have no dominion.”
- Dylan Thomas

Lovers LostAccording to the profile, this blogger doesn’t pull any punches. “Opinionated, sometimes grumpy, sentimental, a thinker, avid reader, and gay. Life's motto, "listen intently, love intensely, and it's all about kindness." Oh, and I'm not looking, I'm waiting to be found. And before you ask, that's my best Anne Robinson (The Weakest Link) stare.” You get a sense of voice and style just from this one simple self description that continues throughout the entire blog.

It’s a combination of local (Toronto) happenings and world wide events in many posts. According to a recent post, which states, “The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is investigating an incident last weekend in which transit workers are alleged to have made homophobic comments aimed at two men who were holding hands as they exited Spadina station,” you get a sense of politics. But then there’s another recent post about the death of Charles Nelson Reilly, where the author says, “If you've been reading the blog for any amount of time, you know I love a good laugh. I can remember all the family watching Match Game and laughing ourselves silly in the 70s. The same with Hollywood Squares. Combine Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly, and you were in for a truly hilarious half hour. The kind of laughing where you laugh until the tears are running down your face. Same thing with The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Hasn't everyone seen the clip with Ed Ames from the 60s? Ah, the days when you could be hilariously funny without being insulting,” and you realize there’s a really personal side to this blog, too.

But the most important factors to mention here about this blog are the basics when it comes to enjoying any blog on the web. First, it’s clear and simple, where the reader doesn’t have to wonder what’s going on. Second, it’s very well produced with a simple format and no weird colors or over-creative (annoying) photos or videos, which makes it fast and direct to navigate. Third, this is a well written blog that doesn’t contain spelling errors or grammatical errors that tend to reduce the credibility of some blogs (you can’t take them seriously when they don’t know when a paragraph either begins or ends). And, finally, the blog’s voice and pace is filled with heart and emotion that almost shouts between the lines. The author comes off as smart, funny, and sometimes a bit short tempered…but by no means offensive. Check it out, guys…you won’t be disappointed.
