A Sticky Situation

I never quite understood the term “sticky situation” until I recently spilled maple syrup on a pair of my corduroy jeans. What was intended to go onto a stack of mouth-watering pancakes dribbled off my plate onto the kitchen counter then onto my pant leg.
The syrup ran from my upper thigh to just above my knee down the neatly plowed rows of jean material and, despite the Zen-like parallel lines of corduroy I saved money on buying from Wal-Mart that should have called out “PEACE,” I sprinted down my hallway towards the laundry room in a Tibetan fury.
Plate in one hand, I managed to balance myself with the other on the washing machine then use my toes and pick up a dirty rag to wipe up what was quickly becoming a snotty smear. Low and behold, rags sitting in front of the washing machine were called “dirty” for a reason.
