Who is Candis Cayne?

Celebrity guest Candis Cayne surely isn’t shy when the Rumba comes her way! She breaks out all the moves, making the dance floor crackle!

Candis Cayne will have a recurring role on the new TV series, Dirty Sexy Money. She plays Carmelita, the secret transsexual lover of a married U.S. senator, played by William Baldwin.

Candis Cayne was born Brendan McDaniel in Maui, Hawaii. Her parents had moved there from California so they could teach at a Waldorf school. After she graduated from high school, she moved to Los Angeles and worked on a cruise ship for a few months to save up some money to move to New York.

While in New York, Candis received a scholarship to the Steps dance studio and studied dance for several years. She started performing at Boy Bar, a gay bar in New York City under the name ‘Candis Cayne’. She regularly participated in Wigstock, an annual drag festival in East Village. From there, she was asked to do the choreography to To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar and also got a role in the movie Stonewall.

In 1996, Candis would make the transition from male to female.

Candis has appeared in several movies and TV, as well as plays and musical theater projects. In 2001, Candis won the title of Miss Continental, an annual transgender beauty pageant that is usually held over Labor Day weekend.

Candis and her boyfriend, DJ Marco, have been together for the last 5 years.
