Elton John: UK Gay Icon Award!

Mr Rocket Man himself,  the top  crooner Sir Elton John,  along with Judy Garland have  been accorded the mentle of The Greatest Gay Public Figures of all time in a new poll, by OnePoll.com!

Elton, who was  62 this year,  who married longterm, long suffering  partner David Furnish here in the UK back in 2005. Heads the chart of  the list of male icons, while that late and great  Hollywood actress Garland, who starred as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, was named the top female.

Some 5000 gay men and women took part in the poll, to bring this list about which is holds just a couple of surprises,  Judy being top of the gals,  not one of them!   If we run the poll in another 5 or 10 years time, I wonder if we’d still see the same result?

Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and comedian and UK King of Twitter, Stephen Fry were named as the second and third most popular male gay public figures. In contrast, loads of the  top ten female gay icons,  are actually straight women!.

“Interestingly only one of the men on the top 10 list of male celebrity gay icons isn’t gay – David Beckham. And yet most of the women put on a pedestal by the gay community are straight. It just shows that to advocate a certain way of living, you don’t have to live the lifestyle but simply be more accepting of those around you”, a spokesperson explained.
