Couric & DeGeneres Talk
February 5, 2010 by Jason Shaw
One of the things I so enjoyed during my all too short time living in Illinois was sitting down at 3pm to watch Ellen on the box. It’s pure entertainment, say Jason Shaw, English by birth but with a slice of America in his heart.
OK, so Ellen’s show, it’s not exactly the deepest documentary, nor it is the last word it sophistication, but by god it’s entertaining. Plus that Ellen girl has come a long way since 1982 when she first came to prominence by winning a stand up competition, became America’s funniest person! She won awards galore and in 1994 given her own TV show ‘These Friends Of Mine’ which a year later changed it’s name to ‘Ellen’ and it was great. in 1997 she was awarded a Peabody as well as an Emmy for the critically acclaimed ‘Puppy Episode’ in which the character came out, watched by a record breaking 46 million viewers! The daytime talk show, has been running now for 7 seasons and snagged a total of 29 daytime Emmy awards! It’s also a show with a heart, after the horrendous events after hurricane Katrina in her hometown, Ellen and the show raised more than $10 million. Overall the show has raised more than $50 million for charity!
Here in a recent interview the lovely Ellen talks to CBS news host Katie Couric about life, about being gay, about gay marriage and relationships and a whole lot more. Watch it here.
