Perhaps we don’t have equality. Perhaps we don’t have a system that is just, but one thing we do have, is a voice, and the right to let that voice be heard. Without the 4th of July, even that may not exist.

What do I aspire to be? A part of the declaration that starts with We.

We too are people of the United States, yet part of this country so many hates.

They carry banners that say we should die. No wonder so many live in a lie.

As long as I remember, I have been gay. Yet so many insist, we’re not born this way.

What do I aspire to be? An equal citizen in this country, land of the free.

No harm have I cause to the world or mankind. If you took time to know me, a good man you would find.

It is not my right, to judge or to hate. Yet you think yourself fit, to decide my fate.

If I were to die in my sleep tonight, by law my partner would have no right.

To decide matters as your spouse would, a right you take for granted, I wish I could.

So what do I aspire to be? A productive American for all to see.

So much love and passion I have in my soul. I won’t let your actions, take their toll.

I will struggle til I am where I need be. An equal citizen in this country, land of the free.

Kern is no stranger to controversy. She is known for her anti-gay rhetoric and walking into the state capital with a semi-automatic handgun stashed in her purse. Kern is probably best known for her comparison of homosexuality to toe cancer, and her repeated claims that homosexuals are a greater threat to our nation than terrorism. Now she has ignited controversy once again with a document that blames America’s current economic crisis on “our greater national moral crisis.”

The proclamation notes that President Obama scaled back the National Day of Prayer events but signed a proclamation declaring June as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month. The Morality Proclamation laments the president’s disregard for “the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior.” The proclamation calls for God to grant a “national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.”

It seems clear Sally Kern is on a mission to force her Christian right-wing ultra Conservative views on the rest of the world. More than that, she is using her position as an Oklahoma State Representative to do it.

Kern is a religious bigot. Her overt homophobia is nothing short of evil. To suggest some sort of moral equivalence between same sex marriage and sex trafficking is simply outrageous. Kern is the paradigmatic Christian Conservative, an ugly, ignorant, bigot driven by superstitious non-sense.

Bauer’s sexuality has been a topic of speculation before, most recently when openly lesbian South Carolina politician Linda Ketner, a failed candidate for one of the state’s congressional seats, “outed” several state officials, including Bauer, igniting a controversy about airing and repeating such allegations publicly.

A June 29 article at Politico noted that Bauer is viewed by some as a less desirable governor than the disgraced Sanford because Bauer seemingly is not against abortion in any and all cases.

Opponents with long memories also recall a 2006 incident in which Bauer was pulled over for speeding, driving a state-issued vehicle at a reported 101 miles per hour.
Those factors had led to an attack ad, which was pulled before airing, seeking to depict Bauer as “reckless and liberal,” according to the Politico article.

The ad was supplied to Politico by an unidentified “top Republican source.”
