More tales from our very own English eccentric, Jason Shaw. You know him, he’s the one that writes all those stories, the one that was a DJ, the one that was told he was camp by one Mr Crisp! Growing older day by day, English style!

Today, my crotch is seriously sore! I mean seriously! OK, so that may be a tad more information that you wanted to hear right now, perhaps you just popped by to hear a lil bit of gossip or a snagget of news or a funky photo of one of the Seafront Fans. But there you are confronted by a statement of fact on the state of my lower portions. I’m sorry, but, if you know anything about this blog, you’ll know that, I’m honest, painfully honest and to the point. And right now the point is my crotch is a throbbing seething mass of soreness!

First of all, it was a little on the sore side, because after the unwanted appearance of a grey hair in the downstairs man-garden the other week and the following rapid intervention of razor blades, the playing field was bare. However, as everyone knows, unless you keep cutting the lawn, the grass grows back, which is what’s going on downstairs. It’s as itchy as an itchy thing, the hair has grown to stubble length and that makes it itchy and sore and a right pain!

That could have been that, but for some silly reason, this morning I woke with a buzz in my body. Nope I’d not accidentally turned on my rampant rabbit during the night, but I felt buzzy inside. The weather was fine, so clear and bright, yes cold but, it’s a taste of sun, which to be honest, is a bit of a novelty for me. Anyway, I knew I just had to do something and like a cast member from Glee, I sprung into action, bounded and danced my way downstairs. I was alive, I was fruity and buzzy, as I think I may have already said. I got me bike gear out, got me gloves on, wrapped myself up, went outside and out the gate. My mind puzzled a little bit, then I realised I’d forgotten the bike. So after I retrieved the bike, I set off down the road heading south, east, north, west, OK, so I’m not 100% sure which direction I was heading, well I kinda did, I mean, I know I wasn’t going south, after all, I’m in Brighton, you can’t really go south from here, not without getting ya feet wet! And I know north is heading towards the hills, up country, towards London and I wasn’t going that way. Anyway, I think I was heading west, from west Hove, passed Portslade, Fishersgate, Southwick, round Shoreham then up to Bramber and all the way back!.

This was my first little ride of the winter, I say little, it’s about 20 miles in total round trip. Now, at this time, a few hours later, I really wish I’d woken up without a buzz, that I’d woken up in a grouchy mood, a mood where all I wanted to do was wrap myself up in my duvet and snuggle on the sofa. For, if I’d been like that, my arse would not be saddle sore, my right leg would not be swollen round the knee, and my crutch would not be chaffed red sodding raw!

I’m not always great at giving advice, sometimes it’s a bit wishy washy, but if you never take advice from me ever again, take this little snogette – Do not ever cycle when you’ve got re-growth going on in the undercrackers department. Don’t do it, the resulting stubble rash ain’t clever, but it sure is big, it sure is red and it sure is sore!!!!

Equality Forum: Remembering

To commemorate the 45^th anniversary of the Selma Marches, Equality Forum will unveil Life Magazine photojournalist Dan Budnik’s image of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King in Selma in March 1965.

The reception of African American and GLBT leaders will take place on Monday, March 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Equality Forum office, 1420 Locust Street, Suite 300, Philadelphia.

“Dr. King’s dream inspired all Americans and had a profound impact on the gay civil rights movement,” stated Malcolm Lazin, Executive Director, Equality Forum. “Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King were outspoken advocates of gay equality.”

“We had marched with Martin Luther King, seven of us from the Mattachine Society of Washington in 1963, and from that time on, we’d always had our own dream about a march of similar proportions,” said Gay Pioneer Jack Nichols.

Openly gay Bayard Rustin was the lead organizer of the March on Washington in August 1963. In October 1963, openly gay James Baldwin and Dick Gregory with his wife were the first nationally prominent blacks to protest for voters rights in Selma

“The Budnik photograph will remain in the Equality Forum office as a reminder of the debt the GLBT civil rights movement owes to Dr. King,” said Temple Professor Debra Blair, Chair of Equality Forum’s Board of Directors.

Equality Forum is a national and international GLBT civil rights organization with an educational focus. Equality Forum coordinates GLBT History Month, produces documentary films, undertakes high-impact initiatives and presents the largest annual national and international GLBT civil rights summit.

Silence of the Lambs

As soon as the news hit about California State Senator Roy Ashburn being arrested for a DUI after leaving a gay bar, news sources and blogs from around the globe began to speculate that Ashburn was gay.

Many LGBT bloggers in their subsequent postings expressed outrage, some feigning utter contempt with the use of vulgarity for the entertainment of their readership, in what appears to be the “best keep known secret” in California.

In the days which followed it was reported that many in various local communities knew Ashburn was, or at the very least suspected he was gay, having been seen in several gay bars in California. Many would share a drink or two with Ashburn. It has even been said that local media knew of Ashburn’s “closeted” side.

Yet as many pointed out even before Ashburn admitted in a radio interview on KERN that he was in fact gay, all these people including the press never, so it seems, ever called out Ashburn for being a gay man and yet voting against LGBT issues in the state of California.

In his remarks in the interview Ashburn stated, ”The best way to handle that is to be truthful and say to my constituents and all who care I am gay”.

He continued, “My votes reflect the wishes of the people in my district, I have always felt that my faith and allegiance was to the people there in the district, my constituents.”

Mambam: Do You Need Improvment?

I nearly didn’t get round to posting anything today. I’ve been off work and decided to visit my parents in the afternoon.

I just got back, had something to eat and sat in front of the TV, only to be confronted with one of the most horrendous shows on TV, Embarrassing Bodies.

It’s like car crash TV. You can’t believe what your watching, but at the same time can’t turn over.
As i type this a man is being examined in the arse area (very graphically) and has been told he isn’t wiping his bum properly.

I believe Jesus would have befriended members of the GLBT community and only after getting to know them would He have ever told them He didn’t accept their lifestyle.

At this time, I want to further that thought and delve a bit deeper into the actions of Christ during His time on earth and explore how He treated other, shall we say, diverse parts of society in His time.

In the story of the Samaritan woman, John, Chapter 4, Jesus was traveling with His disciples from Judea to Galilee. His disciples were not pleased when they ended up in Samaria and told him, “surely you made a wrong turn” for Samaria was a part of the House of Israel that most Jews wanted to avoid due to “less than honorable” citizens there (Higgs, 2004). What must be understood here is that the Samaritan woman, named Sychar, was what we now call a slut or a tramp. It must also be understood that there was a very well known well in Samaria, Jacob’s Well, and it still stands today in the Middle East. The journey from Judea to Galilee was long and the weather was hot. In Bible times, they didn’t have canteens they could put water in to carry along with them. Travelers depended on wells such as Jacob’s well for survival during long journey which could only be made on donkey, camel, or by foot
