We all know the arguments against LGBT equality and inclusion have been nothing less than…Well…Stupid. However, just when you didn’t think it could get any more stupid, it does.

There’s a great post by Alvin McEwen on his blog Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters that does a great job of pointing out just how stupid it’s become.

According to the post:

And if Focus on the Family and these other religious right groups even cared about “family” or “reality,” they would support all family units, not just the one they think are superior.

One would think that an organization with the word “family” in its name would be more concerned with doing this rather than trying to create a caste system.

Jennings is more than qualified to handle this problem. However there are people who will do what they can to take him down. Be it for ratings or personal homophobia, Jennings has a huge target on his back.

And that’s not right. Someone who is trying to help our children should be supported and commended, not made the victim of those who would bear false witness or sling nasty innuendo in the name of God.

If the lgbt community and our allies don’t stand up for Jennings, then we are turning our back on one of our own.

Frankly, I’m not down with that.
If you support Kevin Jennings and want to help stop the attack against him, join the Support Kevin Jennings facebook group.

The reason for this page is simple: There is a serious problem regarding school bullying. This problem adversely affects the mental and physical well-being of all children, specifically lgbt children.

Special thanks to Alvin McEwen of Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters for this post!

I went to bed depressed Tuesday night and when I rose from my troubled sleep to post on my blog, my depression hadn’t abated. It got to the point where I was considering not posting anymore. I’m still halfway considering that option.

My mental malaise started when I was looking at anti-gay Stand for Marriage site emanating from Washington, D.C.

African-American pastor Harry Jackson and a coalition of other black pastors are trying to put to put marriage equality on the ballot in DC:

Jackson sent out a statement Monday stating that he and other opponents of same-sex marriage would file an initiative request with the elections board Tuesday.

A video of a Bill Maher monologue has been on my mind. He was talking about the birthers but his words leads me to say the following:

Sometimes I feel that any points of progression made by the religious right are in part the fault of the lgbt community.

We have the resources to expose their lies, their reliance on Paul Cameronesque studies and their constant stigmatization of us on a large scale. And we have the numbers of support to back us up when we do.

But many of us don’t believe in talking about these things. I think our community on the whole has an ego problem.

Apparently Kathryn Jean Lopez, editor of National Review Online, has published a piece that credits beauty queen and former Miss California Carrie Prejean for “saving traditional marriage” and holding back the push for marriage equality.

I kid you not. Of course how Lopez accomplishes this is an old trick that I have seen the religious right do – take several unrelated incidents and link them together. The credibility of these claims generally depend on the emotions of the audience they are writing to.

Lopez is obviously a master of this because according to her after Prejean made her now infamous statement and had her brush up with gossip columnist Perez Hilton, the momentum started to shift against marriage equality.

The fact that he didn’t mention the inclusion of black gays in Stonewall but rather contrasted it to black history (wouldn’t Stonewall be considered a part, albeit a small part, of black history) emphasizes the basic emptiness of his piece.

Why is it so hard for folks to say that gay rights are African-American rights because lgbts of color are touched by both communities? Why is it so hard for folks to say that there are times in which the black and gay struggles intersect?

That is why I am so damned weary of this argument about “is gay the new black” or “can gay rights movement compare itself to the civil rights movement.”
