America pisses me off. Where is all the anger from gay people and their friends and families? Why aren’t people speaking up more? Where is the concern? Are most gay people silent? Where are their friends and families? Where is the noise and volume?! I’m so far from that place, and I’m still so enraged — are Americans not worrying about actually being good people?! Arrrgh!

Things that have to be fixed, and that can be fixed pretty easily but are not because people aren’t saying or doing anything stronger:

- job discrimination allowed
- (including discrimination in the military)
- (including veterans’ benefits discrimination)
- (including government/federal workers unfair benefits)
- (including lack of equal healthcare coverage for partners)
- homeless youth
- prejudice and bullying against gays in schools
- prejudiced-based violence going unpunished
- lack of sex and health education and research
- (including spread of STDs/STIs with not enough prevention)
- (including HIV rates, especially in racial minorities and the poor)
- marriage discrimination
- (including unfair taxes)
- (including not being counted in census accurately)
- (including immigration discrimination)
- (including inheritance/death tax discrimination)
- (including hospital visitation discrimination)
- (including adoption and foster care discrimination)
- churches allowed to condemn gays and teach that their existence is “wrong”
- “ex-gay” programs that are psychologically harmful to individuals and insulting overall
- exclusion from whole American communities
- (including national policy that reinforces that attitude)
- foreign policy that for too long has ignored human rights for gay people in other countries

I often find myself alone on my balcony gazing up into the sky thinking about the world and the awful state that it is in. Every time I turn on the television there is news of famine and war….

The troubles in Iraq, the bombings in Georgia…I ask myself so many times where is God while all of this is going on? Is he somewhere idly standing by as life erodes slowly into an abysmal ciaos? I do not know what to think anymore….the days roll by and it seems as if nothing ever really changes.

I live in America, The Great Free Nation….yet I am not free. I am a citizen by birth , yet I am not afforded all of the privileges in which it ensues. I work. I pay taxes the same as everyone else, but I am halted in my pursuit of happiness. I am denied rights simply because of whom I chose to love. The freedom of choice is such an irony.
