Milk to Be Honored by Obama

Gay rights campaigner Harvey Milk is to be posthumously awarded with a Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor.

President Obama will bestow the honor to the murdered San Francisco supervisor along with 15 others, including lesbian tennis legend Billie Jean King and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Speaking to the Washington Times, Stuart Milk, Harvey’s nephew, said: “My uncle would be so proud of this high honor.”

Stuart will accept the award on behalf of his uncle at the White House ceremony on August 12th.

Billie Jean King, who won 12 Grand Slam singles titles, including six at Wimbledon, will be responding to readers’ questions on Wednesday about Wimbledon and the world of tennis. King is the co-founder of World Team Tennis, which this summer will have a team playing in New York City for the first time in 30 years. In 1978, she played with the New York Apples; today, the team is called the NY Sportimes and is led by John McEnroe. It will play a seven-game home schedule in a new 2,000-seat stadium on Randalls Island starting July 7.
