There is something deeply wrong. We must demand change. We must enable teachers to do the right thing. We must teach our children tolerance. All the crazy talk about storms and the horrible fear that maybe LGBT people might be treated as equals has to stop. We need to all come together to help these kids. Whatever our religious beliefs our, it has to stop.

Kids too young to identify as any sexuality are being brought to levels of pain that leave them feeling they have no choice.

The right wing rhetoric has to stop. Bullies like Dobson, Perkins, Warren, stand on their pulpits and spew hate. Save the family, they say. Unless you don’t fit their narrow definition of family.

From everything I’ve read, I’m fairly certain Jesus would not be on the side of hateful words.

Wasting Prayer on Hate

I’m not a deeply religious person, much less a theologian. But I wonder, like so many other lay persons who don’t have direct access to God the way that Dr. James Dobson and other evangelicals profess to have, does each human being on Earth receive an allocation on the number of prayers we can execute in a lifetime? Or is it an endless supply whereby some prayers can be wasted.

Praying for rain to sabotage a political event would fall into the waste category. So would “praying away the gay,” the theme of a Focus on the Family-sponsored conference promoted by the church that GOP vice-president contender Sarah Palin attends.

“You’ll be encouraged by the power of God’s love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality,” reads the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years.

Praying for Rain

It was reported earlier on gayagenda.com that Stuart Shepard, correspondent for the Focus on the Family network and a Dobson crony, mused on bothering God about prayers for some biblical rains to wash away Obama’s convention speech in Denver this month. In the video he claims, what’s a little rain when the institution of marriage and millions of unborn lives are at stake?

Well, looks like his video has backfired and people from within his own Anti-Gay hate group have grumbled enough to have the video pulled off the website. According to a blog on queensspeach.com, “they’re saying it was just a joke. Well, it’s a joke that the religious right used to target Obama, because he’s a Democrat. This only fuels the concern that the religious right isn’t about God anymore, they’re about Republicans. And that’s just sad.”
