It looks like Ricky Martin is getting some attention from other celebrities including Drew Barrymore after the Latin pop singer recently came out out of the closet.

According to a post on Auhana:

Drew Barrymore has praised gay singer Ricky Martin for opening up about his sexuality – insisting his admission will help other celebrities ‘come out’.The Livin’ La Vida Loca hitmaker ended years of speculation about his love life last month (Mar10) by revealing he’s a “proud homosexual”.

And the Charlie’s Angels actress has applauded Martin for his honesty, as she believes his story will help other gay stars feel accepted.

She tells Access Hollywood, “My lofty goal in this world is that we can live in a world that doesn’t judge each other, I just want people to be able to live their lives that are true to them. I celebrate what (Ricky) is doing because we have to create a world for each other where acceptance is first and foremost.”

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has announced that Drew Barrymore and Wanda Sykes will be receiving Media Awards this coming April. They’ve also announced Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Wanda Sykes will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 17 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

The GLAAD Media Awards elevate and promote fair, accurate and inclusive stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, people and allies that have increased awareness, understanding and respect for the lives of LGBT people. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to bring stories of LGBT people and issues to Americans.

Actress Drew Barrymore will receive the Vanguard Award which is presented to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community. In 2009, Barrymore took on the role of the lesbian daughter of a widower played by Robert De Niro in Everybody’s Fine, nominated for Outstanding Film – Wide Release at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards, and in 1995 starred in Boys on the Side which won the Outstanding Film award at the 7th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. She also joined thousands of marriage equality advocates in the streets of West Hollywood when the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, which eliminated marriage for gay and lesbian couples. Past recipients of The Vanguard Award include Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone, Eric McCormack, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli, Kathy Griffin and Whoopi Goldberg.

“I was born, bred and raised among diversity, it has defined me and made me the person I am today,” Barrymore said. “I’m honored and humbled to be receiving this award.”

“When I heard him speak about a gay person never having to sit outside the hospital room with their loved one sick inside, I burst into tears because so many people I care about are homosexual and it was profound to have someone be sensitive to that,” she said.

“That’s the kind of world I want to live in, where we’re not holding our own principles in judgement above someone or against someone.”

While supportive of most gay rights, Senator Obama does not support gay marriage.

“I support the notion that all people — gay or straight — deserve the same rights and responsibilities to assist their loved ones in times of emergency, deserve equal health insurance and other employment benefits currently extended to heterosexual married couples, and deserve the same property rights as anyone else,” he wrote in a response to questions put to him by the gay press.
