I’m well familiar with the fantasy of the straight man. We’ve all done it.. the dreaming, or hoping they convert, maybe even fall in love with you to live happily ever after. Or then there’s the ones that are straight, but just want to have sex with you. And those, my friends, are what I have encountered.

Case #1: The obviously in denial gay boy.
In college, there of course was that one guy who you knew was playing-with-matches flaming. Everyone noticed it, but him. So up and down he would swear that he’s straight, until after a drunken night, you’re sitting on the couch with him under a blanket, and he sticks his foot in your crotch. I frakking knew it. His idea, to then sneak into the bathroom to start his guy loving, and next thing you know he’s bed bound and begging to be entered. All the while he’s saying such sweet words like “no one can know” (even your girlfriend knows) and with this continual talk, I’ve lost interest. Next day he’s blocked me from all forms of communication, but I don’t care. I laugh.

The above is taken from: the year of love…maybe! Just a late 20 something who has nerd lovability trying to start his life anew, and find his other half that he can call swell.

It’s like car crash TV. You can’t believe what your watching, but at the same time can’t turn over.

Until a few years ago, I would have said I had “same-sex attractions”, which was completely different because it implied that I could somehow “retrain” myself to be “normal”. Considering the environment in which I grew up, this should not come as a surprise. I had never known of a gay person who was happy with their sexual orientation and the only openly homosexual I knew, committed suicide. So, I kept the faith and believed that one day a miracle would happen and I would be transformed into a heterosexual. After a few very strange dating situations, many prayers, and one weird exorcism, I was ready for a change in how I was approaching this whole situation. Unsure of what this meant, I decided to move to the US.

Who’s your favorite Leatherman? It’s the Mr. Rawhide 2010 contest! That’s right, the bar you run right past or duck into and don’t tell your friends about has a great big, chest-thumping contest title! The weekend of March 12 will expand New York’s tiny leather footprint by inches by adding another celebration of the creed, community and look of leather. This, being a feeder title to Chicago’s 2011 International Mr. Leather Contest will not just be serving lurid hot plates of beefcake! It will have at its forefront: one’s commitment to the scene, knowledge of its roots and service to causes important to our community: health, safety, sexual freedom and equal rights. (In full disclosure: I have been asked to help judge this contest. I assure you that I am not kidding about the qualifications!)
The founder of the contest, Justin John Costello, started taking his first steps into the leather scene in 1998, here in NYC, eventually being named Mid-Atlantic Leatherboy 2006. He moved to Philadelphia, lived within a life-changing Daddy/boy relationship, all the while working on Broadway and writing for Hollywood movies. He traveled the country, taking part in, working on and judging leather contests and soaking up leather culture and history. Asking Justin about his earliest memories of the Rawhide Bar, he replied, “I walked in and immediately got an erection!

We can’t arrive at the same time because of the fans. It goes crazy.” The Sun wouldn’t just make up an interview, though, would they? I mean, white lies and unsourced rumors are one thing, but wholesale quote fabrication? I’m going with Celebitchy’s explanation: “Sparkles could be drunk.” For Kristen’s sake, let’s hope this isn’t true, because an “allergic to vagina” boyfriend sounds pretty lame.

I guess it was only a matter of time, an inevitable consequence of increasing age perhaps, therefore something I should have been aware of, indeed expected even. But, that didn’t stop the shock this morning when I noticed it.

Well, I say this morning, but really it was nearer afternoon, late night last night, stayed up to listen to James Hipps on the GayAgenda.com show on Blog Talk Radio and jolly good it was too! Then after that I researched for a future article, but anyway I’m digressing yet again!

There I was, in the bathroom, enjoying a long hot refreshing shower, the heat and the scent of mint, lemon with hint of jasmine shower gel were transporting me away from the then and there, off to a different time, a different place, a different world. In my mind I was on some far off island where the sun shines brightly all day long and palm trees swaying in a gentle breeze. The kind of place where the sand is golden, the sea a lush light blue, air so pure and clear, and there was a cliff with a tall, thundering waterfall! Anyway, I was there, in my dream like state, I was standing under that waterfall, washing myself in natures goodness, the warm water showering my body, I’m washing my hair, my arms, my shoulders, my chest, then just at that very second, my showering pleasure, my vivid imaginations of paradise was abruptly, violently and scarily halted by what I saw.

Nope, some massive great big spider had not crawled up from the drain hole, nor fallen into the shower. Nope, nor was it that dirty nosy perv from next door peeping out from behind the shower screen with his Polaroid!

No, the sight that greeting my eyes was far far worse than that, far more of the unexpected expected. A natural but unwelcome sight, for there nestled withing the brown was grey! Yes, I freaked my arse out of the shower, almost tripping over the screen, shower gel stinging my eyes almost the sight of my first grey hair, ending up on my backside on the wooden floor feeling dejected, depressed oh and wet!

Now, I know what you are thinking, you’ve seen the photos of me, you’ve noticed grey hairs by my temples, but I’m talking lower than the head! Yes, this morning I found my first grey pubic hair! I was expecting it, like I said, it’s an inevitable part of getting older, something that will or has happened to most of us, but even that knowledge doesn’t soften the blow, doesn’t ease the initial shock, I mean I had a fucking grey pube for fuck sake!!!

I say had, I don’t any more, it’s gone now, the offending protrusion was soon ripped from it’s roots with a rapidity that frankly even surprised me. It blooming well hurt too, but at least I’d got rid of that one stray grey. But, strangely enough, even as I was bidding that single hair goodbye down the u-bend, I heard the voice of my old Gran in my heard ’Pluck one grey hair and another seven grow in it’s place.’ It’s an old wives tale of course, well then again, my Gran was an old wife, but you know what I mean. Such sayings are just that, sayings, not truth, not fact. However, whilst I know there are times in the future, a time when I’ll be a silver fox, both up top and down below. But, until that time, I don’t wanna be grey, not down there, it’s just not right, well OK, it’s right, but it’s not …..not the right time!

So, with the irrational fear bubbling round my head, along with Gran’s voice, which means it’s a pretty crowded in my head at the best of times! I just picked up my razor, yep and then in short order my short and curlys were no long attached, gone they were. I now may have a shaving rash, it may be a little scratchy, indeed, I may have an itchy crotch, but at least it’s not a grey one!

That’s Connor, he’s a fan!
