The Ultimate Icon?

When it comes to gay icons, people like Elton John, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Liza and others may come to mind, but this one surprised us.

According to a post on Star Pulse, the one voted as the “Ultimate Gay Icon” was Britney Spears:

Singer Britney Spears has been voted the greatest gay icon of all time in a new poll.

The hitmaker saw off competition from President Barack Obama and veteran performer Cher to take 31 percent of the vote in the Orange County Equality Project’s poll to find the quintessential gay icon.

Non-Iconic

When we think of gay icons, we typically think of things somehow associated with the “Wizard of Oz”, like Judy or Liza. Perhaps we think of Elton John and other famous people who are out of the closet.

But just because we may consider someone a gay icon, doesn’t mean they view themselves in that respect. Such as in the case of RuPaul.

According to a post on SabDesi:

ACTOR, drag queen, model, author, and singer-songwriter RuPaul doesn’t consider himself a gay icon.

The star of RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag U says it’s none of his business how people perceive him.

It looks like the gay icon Liza Minnelli has been working just as hard, if not harder than she ever has with her recent appearance in “Sex and the City 2″ and now her own fashion line.According to a post on Ace Showbiz:

Iconic entertainer Liza Minnelli can add clothing and jewelery designer to her resume – she has signed a deal to help create a line for the Home Shopping Network (HSN).

Prince Harry is a Top

Gay Icon that is! So how about a little Red for your Valentine’s Day? Prince Harry has just been named a top gay icon, thanks to his bad-boy good looks and athletic physique. Harry, 25, is one of Google’s most searched-for male celebrities.

Having washboard abs and a sexy smile doesn’t hurt, either.

“Red hair is getting very, very trendy in the gay scene,” says Haydon Bridge, a columnist with U.K.-based gay magazine QX.

The 6’3″ Harry, who plays competitive polo, rugby, skis, and motocross, cultivated a reputation as a wild child during his early 20s for his underage drinking and late-night partying. Prince_Harry_British_Army

Harry, who is a lieutenant in the British Army, was just named vice patron of England’s Rugby Football Union.

In November 2009, Harry earned the affection of the gay community when he kissed a male fan in exchange for a beer.

In 2008, Harry was photographed shirtless (above) in camouflage fatigues kicking a rugby ball during his 10-week deployment to Afghanistan.

Bye-Bye John Stamos

Former Full House star and Advocate coverboy John Stamos puts on a happy face for the Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie and gives the word, hummingbird, on his gay fans and gay icon girlfriends.

When John Stamos suited up for the cover of The Advocate in 2006, he was playing doctor on ER and promoting his role as a gay wedding planner striking for marriage equality rights in the A&E original movie Wedding Wars. The former General Hospital heartthrob best known as Uncle Jesse on the hit family sitcom Full House is now performing to full houses as mama’s boy Albert Peterson in the first Broadway revival of the Tony-winning 1960 musical Bye Bye Birdie, which opened October 15 at Henry Miller’s Theatre. The eternally youthful 46-year-old called Advocate.com to confess his campy obsession with Birdie costar Gina Gershon and the boozy truth behind that now-infamous Australian morning show interview.

October is GLBT History Month

In the 1990′s, teachers and community organizations determined that a month should be designated for GLBT history. They chose October because public schools are in session and traditions, such as National Coming Out Day, occur then.

GLBT History Month is endorsed by GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, the National Education Association, and other national organizations. In 2006, Equality Forum assumed responsibility for GLBT History Month.

Celebrate Our Heritage

The GLBT community is the only community worldwide that does not learn its history at home, in public schools or in religious institutions. GLBT History Month teaches our heritage, provides role models, builds community and makes the civil rights statement of our extraordinary national and international contributions.

Fun to Stay at the YMCA

The Village People, the 1970s pop sensation who brought us anthems such as YMCA, In The Navy and Macho Man, was in full attendance for a star-studded event in Hollywood on Friday. Why were they there? The members of the group received their star on Hollywood’s walk of fame.
