Pride Growing in Detroit

At one time, the city of Detroit, from Hamtramck to Grosse Pointe was a thriving urban city with a vibrancy that continued 24/7.

Like other great Americans cities, Detroit has seen it’s shares of ups and downs, but unlike many other great cities, it’s seen way more downs than ups. But, when it comes to gay pride, it would definitely appear the motor city is experiencing an upswing that will hopefully benefit the entire population of the city that runs an unemployment rate well into to double digit figures.

According to a post on the Detroit Free Press:

The state’s largest annual festival aimed at gay people plans to move from its 10-year run on West 9 Mile in Ferndale to Detroit’s Hart Plaza this summer so that it can expand to two days, organizers and city officials said.

The move coincides with the 25th anniversary of Michigan’s “first pride march, which happened in Detroit,” and it means that the festival that drew an estimated 30,000 people to downtown Ferndale in 2010 could attract 40,000 in Detroit when it runs June 4-5, festival chair Dave Wait said Tuesday.

Kelis Closes Manchester Pride

Kelis was the closing act for Manchester Pride in the U.K. this past Sunday and according to reports gave the crowd something to remember!

According to a post on San Francisco Examiner:

“Manchester, make some noise,” singing sensation Kelis told an overflow crowd packed in for the Manchester Pride 2010 festival just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 29. The crowd roared and Kelis sang. She was the finale musical act on Sunday. Monday is a holiday in the UK, so there were more people out than on a typical Sunday.

Rihanna in 2011?

So, could it be possible that Rihanna will be performing for those in attendance of the 2011 Sydney Gay Mardi-Gras in Australia? According to sources, it may be happening!

From Gay2ShareWorld.com:

Although organizers have always been tight-lipped about performers line-up Rihanna’s Sydney concert dates have been confirmed and coincide nicely with the Mardi Gras weekend. The Umbrella singer is set for a concert at Sydney’s Acer Arena on Friday March 4. Mardi Gras 2011 has been confirmed for the following night – Saturday March 5.

San Diego Pride 2010

My weekend was primarily set around work and by work I mean hanging out with models and drinking We decided to have a Pride Kickoff Party since Suite703 is based in San Diego, we might as well make our presence known to the city and boys. Of course the place to be Friday night was at Rich’s San Diego where we had the upstairs VIP room. We invited various models and friends of Suite703 to join and to say the least, the night was a success!

It’s A Bust!

It’s about to hit the headlines in the UK, pop superstar George Michael was arrested again early on Sunday morning, after more than a million people had been celebrating in London for Pride.

The singer whose a remarkably 47, seems to have crashed his Range Rover in to the door and side of a photographic shop in Hampstead in North London, not far from his London home.

The impact buckled the door frame and shattered windows at a ‘Snappy Snaps’ store in the posh end of Hampstead, North London. He was questioned at local police station where he was released on bail, but told he must appear again next month.

A Metropolitan police spokesman said “A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive.” No word as yest from the singer, his management or record company.

Poor George, he doesn’t seem to have much luck with driving at night in London town, he was banned from driving for two years in May 2007 after getting caught driving under the influence of drugs. Although recently he claimed he was cutting down on his cannabis consumption, having just seven spliffs a day.

Kylie Minogue is highlighting Spain’s gay pride this week as she will be performing for free at what’s considered by many to be one of Europe’s premier gay events.

According to Pop Crunch:

Australian pop star and gay rights icon Kylie Minogue has been tipped to headline a gay pride festival in Spain this week. The “All the Lovers” singer, 42, will perform a free open air concert during Madrid’s gay pride festivities next weekend, event organizers confirmed Friday. The event is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

Are You Proud Enough?

We all know it’s June and if you’re gay that means you should be aware that it’s pride month. You should also be aware of how Pride started and why it’s so important to the LGBT community.

But, a great post on The Queer Times asks; Are you proud enough to go to pride?

The Gay Pride Festival or LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual & Transgender) Pride Festival as it has become latterly known is an international celebration of gay culture and all things queer. The message is clearly about being proud of who you are hence the name Pride which is used as an antonym for shame which has been used to control, oppress and generally fuck us over for long enough.

Every year pride events around the world grow bigger and bigger and so does the amount of money spent on the event. More advertisers have discovered the financial benefits of marketing at a pride event. Corporations aren’t he only one’s hinging their hopes on finding loyal customers however. Many places are looking to boost their LGBT tourism industry by becoming involved in various pride events.

According to a post on Isrealli.org:

Madrid Orgullo (Madrid Pride) is the biggest gay pride parade in Spain and one of the largest in Europe. - The Israeli Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Association is hoping their participation in the Madrid Orgullo festival will help market Tel Aviv as a hot destination for gay tourists.

Discovering Pride

We’ve all had those ‘aha’ moments when you realize the importance of our past and how it connects to our present and how it will affect our future. When visiting NYC and seeing ‘Stonewall’ where it all started is no exception to that rule!According to a post on Our Big Gayborhood:

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of visiting New York City for the first time. Among my sightseeing destinations was Greenwich Village and the Stonewall Inn. A tiny place, as places where real history is made often are, it seemed somehow smaller than its role in the collective imagination of gay Americana.
