We should have all known that when George W was talking about weapons of mass destruction, he was actually busy creating one of his own.

The economy was destroyed, the environment moved closer to being destroyed, foreign relations were destroyed and a new weapon of mass destruction was being built right here in America to destroy liberty, freedom, justice and rights for a part of the population Republicans would love to put on a one-way boat to Cuba…the LGBT population.

And now that NOM, one of Georgie boy’s pet projects has been successful in removing justices from the Iowa bench, that has destroyed our hope that the judicial branch in the country may do the right thing, even if voters and and the legislative branch won’t…which is give EVERYONE equality. Why? Because now they have a great deal more momentum behind the millions of dollars they have to pump into their anti-gay agenda.

According to a post on Care2.com:

The recent removal, via a retention vote, of three Iowa Supreme Court Justices over their part in the 2009 ruling to legalize same sex marriage in the state, has encouraged other social activist groups to take another look at intimidating the judicial system. As a means to roll back the clock on abortion rights, pro-gay civil rights, and other positive social gains that they oppose for moral reasons, activist groups believe bullying judges is the next battleground.

My teenage and college years were under the shadow of this dark period of American history, with an imperial president capitalizing on a nation’s collective shock to wage war on nations, civil liberties, and the environment. Such were the only politics, all but stated outright, that I and millions of others my age knew for most of our sentient lives. I was thirteen years old when George W. Bush won the presidency.

So you can hardly fault us for being swept up in the “hope” and “change” whirlwind that blew through our country with Barack Obama’s presidency. Young folks from coast to coast turned out in droves to knock on doors, work phone banks, and register new voters. Even people steeped in radical politics, deeply critical of the American two-party system, got on board. Some volunteered for his campaign, a task in which they had never imagined themselves participating; others decided they would vote for him, despite taking previous positions that they would never participate in electoral politics; many put forth a sharply critical stance in public or print, but one-on-one, maybe after a few beers, admitted that his campaign’s energy was infectious, and they were doggedly attempting to evade the grasp of that excitement—to no avail.

Since its inception in 2003, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has become the largest public health program in history. Created by President George W. Bush, it has distributed nearly $50 billion worldwide, mostly in Africa, to prevent the spread of HIV and to treat its victims. Over the last five years, the fund has provided care for 3 million people and prevented an estimated 12 million new infections. Even Bush’s harshest critics do not deny that PEPFAR has been a huge success in combating the AIDS epidemic.

In spite of all that the program has accomplished, however, a persistent problem remains: the promotion of homophobia by African governments receiving American aid money. In no nation is this problem more acute than in Uganda, one of 15 PEPFAR “focus” countries that collectively account for half of the world’s HIV infections. Homosexuality is considered a taboo in most of Africa, yet few governments have gone to the lengths of Uganda’s in punishing it. The consequences are devastating not only for the people directly affected by these adverse policies but for the fight against AIDS in general.

Uganda’s campaign against homosexuality took a disturbing turn last month when a member of parliament in the nation’s governing majority introduced legislation that would stiffen penalties for actual or perceived homosexual activity, which is already illegal under Ugandan law. According to the proposed law, “repeat offenders” could be sentenced to death, as would anyone engaging in a same-sex relationship in which one of the members is under the age of 18 or HIV-positive. Gay-rights advocacy would be illegal, and citizens would be compelled to report suspected homosexuals or those “promoting” homosexuality to police; if they failed to do so within 24 hours, they could also be punished.

After eight years of the failed policies of George W. Bush and the Republicans, there is no doubt that the country needed to go in a new direction.

In spite of Bill O’Reilly and the other talking heads, as well as the rest of the right-wing media, the people were tired of trickle-down, move-down and shake-down. It is clear that these policies are no longer valid in today’s world.

Unfortunately, Texas and the Panhandle have chosen to remain in the 19th century. They have aligned themselves with the likes of the regressive states of Mississippi, Kansas, Georgia and Alabama, states that still believe in fighting a war of racism and a fail to accept that this country was founded and based on a diversity of culture and opinion.
