If you’re part of the LGBT community and you need help getting your book published, movie produced or music promo’ed, then there’s a new website that can give you some help and advice.

If you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a best selling writer or wondered how you could finance your film or other creative endeavors, da Vinci’s Waking Dream gives you interviews with people who are where you want to be. Not only will you learn about their successes, you’ll also hear about their challenges.

Website publisher and podcast host Will Norman interviews gay and gay-friendly musicians, filmmakers, artists, writers like Amazon best selling author Nick Nolan and award-winning animator and comic book artist Brad Rader. Published every Thursday on the Queers on the Verge website, iTunes podcasts, and other distributor venues, da Vinci’s Waking Dream provides its audience with intimate access to gay professionals.

The podcast is for beginners, those seeking to promote their work, and for individuals ready to take their career to the next level. Da Vinci’s Waking Dream is also a great place for gay musicians, writers, filmmakers, content producers, and artists to promote their latest projects.

Listeners get a look at the behind-the-scenes of working gay music artists and entrepreneurs: how they promote themselves and monetize their brand. Guests freely give advice and discuss their latest projects. But listeners come away with so much more since da Vinci’s Waking Dream rises above mere Q&A. You also get to know a little about the person offering advice, which makes listening to the podcast that much more enjoyable. Many times, the guests on da Vinci’s Waking Dream are quite funny, but unlike so many gay podcasts, this show is not striving for humor. Straightforward advice and tips that will help listeners take their dream to the next level is the show’s aim.

One of the perks of da Vinci’s Waking Dream is that you don’t have to be gay to walk away with something from the podcast. All you need is a goal, a receptive ear, and the determination to make your Web 2.0 dreams come true.

Last week, House Republican Leader John Boehner objected to House passage of a bill that would expand hate crime laws and make it a federal crime to assault people on the basis of their sexual orientation.

“All violent crimes should be prosecuted vigorously, no matter what the circumstance,” he said. “The Democrats‘ ‘thought crimes’ legislation, however, places a higher value on some lives than others. Republicans believe that all lives are created equal, and should be defended with equal vigilance.”

The rest of his ramblings can be found on CBS News.

Please note the part in highlighted italics. Isn’t that ‘rich’ (pun intended). A Republican accusing democrats on placing a higher value on some lives than others…yet who opposes providing health care for the less fortunate? Is it the Democrats? And…Republicans believe that all lives are created equal? WHAT??? Are you kidding me with this? It’s an overwhelming majority of Republicans that don’t support equality for LGBT Americans. It is the Republicans who don’t want me, you or any other member of the LGBT community to be able to marry the one we love, which would be equality. Of course I realize, straight, white, Christian Republicans believe they are above many others around the world, including people of various colors, ethnicities or religions, so in their minds, marriage inequality isn’t discrimination simply on the basis that LGBT people are not as good, therefore we’re not equal, nor should be treated as such. However, the quote does read, “Republicans believe that ALL lives are created equal.”

Oh…those Republicans. Will their words ever come back to haunt them? Hopefully, in the near future.

A video of a Bill Maher monologue has been on my mind. He was talking about the birthers but his words leads me to say the following:

Sometimes I feel that any points of progression made by the religious right are in part the fault of the lgbt community.

We have the resources to expose their lies, their reliance on Paul Cameronesque studies and their constant stigmatization of us on a large scale. And we have the numbers of support to back us up when we do.

But many of us don’t believe in talking about these things. I think our community on the whole has an ego problem.

The bombshell revelation that South Carolina governor Mark Sanford had disappeared to Argentina for a rendezvous with an extramarital romantic interest has failed to elicit calls fro the governor’s resignation. Although another factor may also be at work: rumors that the state’s Lieutenant Governor, Andre Bauer, is gay.

Bauer’s sexuality has been a topic of speculation before, most recently when openly lesbian South Carolina politician Linda Ketner, a failed candidate for one of the state’s congressional seats, “outed” several state officials, including Bauer, igniting a controversy about airing and repeating such allegations publicly.

A June 29 article at Politico noted that Bauer is viewed by some as a less desirable governor than the disgraced Sanford because Bauer seemingly is not against abortion in any and all cases.

Opponents with long memories also recall a 2006 incident in which Bauer was pulled over for speeding, driving a state-issued vehicle at a reported 101 miles per hour.
Those factors had led to an attack ad, which was pulled before airing, seeking to depict Bauer as “reckless and liberal,” according to the Politico article.

The ad was supplied to Politico by an unidentified “top Republican source.”

For years, there has been a buzz about the lack of LGBT representation on the TV. Of late however, there has been a growing number of gay characters portrayed on TV, especially in the circle of daytime soaps. ABC’s “All My Children” has had a lesbian wedding, and CBS has had an ongoing gay drama (including sex) on their long running “As the World Turns”.

Well, it looks like CBS has yet again stumbled into the gay ring on daytime. This time it’s on the long running Young and Restless. That’s right, Y&R’s Yani Gellman, who plays the role of Rafe, is coming out as gay.
