A 42 year old man, from Bromley, Kent, England has been sent to prison for a minimum sentence of 32 years. David Kilcullen was convicted this week at London’s Old Bailey, of the murder of Gerald Edwards, 59, and the attempted murder of his partner Chris Bevan 57, in a horrific homophobic attack at their home on South London, that shocked the local community.

The court heard Kilcullen went to steal from the frail and housebound Gerald Edwards, armed with a knife, he was determined not to leave any witnesses behind. It came as a surprise to him that Mr Edwards’s partner of 18 years, Chris Bevan, was home at the time, so he attacked him too.

Housebound Mr Edwards, 59, was stabbed four times and died in his blood-covered flat in Bromley. South London. Health worker Mr Bevan managed to flee the attack and get to neighbours, He was stabbed and slashed, he’s only alive today because he received open-heart massage at the scene, after his heart stopped.

Mr Bevan had earlier told the court how he’d gone to the kitchen after hearing his partner’s terrified cry to see Kilcullen with a “face full of hatred” and a knife in his hand. “I thought ‘My God. I have to get out of here or I will die’.

During the court hearing it was learnt that Kilcullen had been to the couples house before and made is distaste for their relationship known. Also in a drunken confessional call to the police the next day he referred to the couple as ‘faggots’.

The judge told Kilcullen that it was highly likely that he would die in prison.

Hate crime against gay’s and lesbians is up by around 14 % this year in the UK, mainly in the city centers, but Bromley, is a leafy South London suburb, it’s quite peaceful. But crimes like these seem to be in the increase, even in towns as culturally diverse and rich in homosexual culture as Brighton, homophobic abuse and crime has increased recently.

Buju Banton, a controversial reggae singer will not be touring the United States.’s U.S. as his tour has been canceled due to protests by the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.

Buju Banton’s 1992 song, “Boom Bye Bye”, suggested burning homosexuals “like an old tire wheel,” and when his U.S. tour was announced, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center organized a phone and letter writing campaign through the social networking Web site, Facebook.

The tour’s promoter AEG Live/Goldenvoice announced Thursday night that they would be canceling the tour which included stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Houston.

Banton was tried and acquitted on charges that he was involved in the beating of six gay men in Jamaica in 2004.

Banton still performs parts of “Boom Bye Bye” in his concerts, but he says that he uses the song to encourage conversation about the issues surrounding the song.

Sally Kern has enlisted her husband, Steve Kern, into the family business of trying to maintain gays and lesbians as non-citizens.

Steve Kern is the pastor at Olivett Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, a position that gives him a culturally bully pulpit to read all the dirty parts of his bible and blame gay people for making him do it.

Bright colours, high heels and heart-shaped glasses did not detract from the serious nature of the protest at the Sunday Sun’s Media Park offices in Auckland Park.

The group were there to voice disapproval of a column written by Jon Qwelane which appeared in the newspaper.Headlined, “Call me names but gay is NOT okay“, the column caused a huge furore for its homophobic sentiment.

On Tuesday the Press Ombudsman ruled that the article was in breach of the Press Code, in that it published “denigratory references to people’s sexual orientation” and implied that homosexuals are a “lower breed” than heterosexuals.
