“We are firmly convinced the exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the institution of civil marriage does not substantially further any important governmental objective,” the Iowa justices ruled. “The legislature has excluded a historically disfavored class of persons from a supremely important civil institution without a constitutionally sufficient justification.”

The tide is building. It will reach different places at different times, but it is happening far more quickly than even many advocates of gay marriage would have hoped. And 20 years from now, more than a few politicians will have a hard time explaining why they once tried to prevent such an obvious step toward justice.

Though the term Gay Genocide may not be entirely apropos, the term Gay Holocaust in Iran could not be more so. Since the Shiite extremists in the Islamic Republic of Iran first seized power in 1979, their regime has been a living hell for all of the Iranian people. Without exception.

“This event is going to happen (on) June 13. Mark your calendars,” Michigan Pride Senior Co-Chair Candice Risner told the gathering.

During the hour-long meeting, which included representatives from Michigan Equality, Lansing Association for Human Rights, Unity of Greater Lansing, Spiral Dance Bar, Suits in the City and the Pride Band, the community had a lengthy discussion about potential partnering with a Lansing-area organization.

What is the basis of decision-making, I ask, that was used by the vast majority of individuals who voted in favor of Proposition 8? The answer can be summarized in one word: religion. While this approach is the prerogative of the individual, I thought that the separation of church (and I use the term broadly) and state had already been established in the annals of ancient history. Letting religious beliefs influence the law and letting the basic rights of some citizens be determined by the religious convictions of other citizens is not in the spirit of democracy or justice. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, as much Proposition 8 supporters would like to disagree, marriage is very much a legal right. Regardless of its cultural or religious roots, marriage has become a legal institution that caters to people of all religious affiliations, as well as atheists, that is recognized by the law and given certain privileges and that has been practiced as such for centuries now. Hence, civil marriage is very much a legal institution, and therefore, has an identity separate from religion, which ought to be upheld.

‘CHANGE HAS COME TO AMERICA.’ This was the basis of Mr. Obama’s victory speech. He spoke of slavery and freedom. He spoke of blacks and women getting the right to vote. He spoke of the change that is to come and equality for Americans. I was moved by his words, yet disheartened by the numbers filtering in on the Prop 8 initiative in California; which I don’t believe should have been on the ballot. When the Supreme Court passes a human right it is passed and should never be overturned. The abolition of slavery was a human rights issue – what if the religious rite wanted to challenge it today?

“There isn’t a black America and a white America. And a Hispanic America. Or an Asian America. There isn’t a gay or straight America. There is the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, 2008

And so with those words, U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama re-defined America for us. He envisioned an America that is made up of many communities in many different colors and living in many different ways. But an America where “equality is a moral imperative.”

When Obama speaks to us of our differences, he also speaks to us about our common bond as citizens of this free country we live in. Unfortunately, some of our fellow Americans still don’t want to acknowledge that bond. They still like to think in terms of the ‘them’ and ‘us’ school of politics. But Obama’s presidential campaign has shattered that old-style thinking into a million pieces by “promising equality for all — a promise that extends to our gay brothers and sisters. It’s wrong to have millions of Americans living as second-class citizens in this nation.”

Just look it up if you do not believe me, The Equal Employment Opportunity Committee has not one law in place to project gays. And why should they? This is one of the few instances where I wish there was no separation between church and state. Personally I have nothing against gays, live and let live, just not around me. I just don’t like what they do, how they act, or how society is slowly but surely accepting them in society. If it was up to me we would have a gay hunt, similar to the witch hunts in Salem. No matter what anyone says, gay is not natural, just look at nature, we don’t see any gay dogs, cats, birds, nothing. Animals are naturally not gay, and humans are animal, that’s why we do it like they do it on the discovery channelJ. I have taken tons of ethics classes and debated this issue tons of times and the only conclusion is that gay simply is a perversion. Well, it’s either a perversion or a mental disorder similar to pedophilia. Pedophilia is described as a failure to recognize ones own age, like Michael, that sick fuck! Well gay has also been described as a failure to recognize ones own gender. Honestly I think it’s just a perversion but what ever the case if you don’t want them to work for you its completely legal.
