Congressman John Lewis Speaks OUT!

It was 44 years ago (March 7, 1965) when a brave group of Americans set out to march from the small town of Selma, Alabama to the Capital of Montgomery in a peaceful demonstration to promote civil rights and voting equality for African-Americans. They were also commemorating the death of Jimmie Lee Jackson, shot three weeks earlier by a state trooper while trying to protect his mother at a civil rights demonstration. The demonstrators were brutally attacked and beaten by state and local police, many of which were members of the KKK. Among those leading the marches was a young man by the name of John Robert Lewis. Still to this day, John Lewis bears the scars of wounds he endured while being violently attacked and beaten by those who hated those of other races. Yet Lewis never gave up and is now known as U.S. Congressman John Lewis. To this day, Congressman Lewis (D-GA) continues his peaceful fight to gain equality for all citizens of this nation…including LGBT citizens!

Time to Work: A Call for Action

Perhaps it shouldn’t be up to the courts to decide our rights. If that happens, there will always be the notion from adversaries that we don’t deserve those rights. It will be said that “activist judges” gave our equality to us. Many will claim the will of a “special interest” group outweighed the will of the people. It will create an even stronger divide, and could potentially set us back even further in those states where even more work is yet to be done.

Anti-Obama Riles Gays

GAY media czar Paul Colichman’s vow in yesterday’s Page Six not to support Barack Obama over the candidate’s opposition to same-sex marriage has other gay media bigs aflame. “By tearing up his check for Obama, he basically wrote one to McCain,” Genre editor Neal Boulton told us. “I openly – no, flamingly – endorse Obama, whether he says he’s for gay marriage or not. . . . I know under Obama, it will only be a matter of time until the country sees the legalization of gay marriage.” James Hipps, project manager for gay-marketing firm Vibe Media (and editor or GayAgenda.com), wants gays to cancel their subscriptions to The Advocate. “I am appalled,” he said. “For our gay-lesbian- bisxexual-transgender rights to continue to grow and not further diminish, then we need to stand behind [Obama]. Good luck with your life, Mr. Colichman. I hope you get to sleep well at night after McCain becomes elected. Shame on you.”
