I remember being thrilled when Charlize Theron announced that she wouldn’t become legally wed until everyone in America had the right to wed the one they love and hoping that others would show this type of commitment to equality as well.

Well, it may be a slow progression, but it does look as though another ally of the LGBT community has committed to wait until equality prevails to exchange vows.

According to a post on Entertainment Today:

Jason Mraz and Tristan Prettyman got engaged in December. But the singer says the couple likely won’t walk down the aisle any time soon.

The singer told attendees at the Concert to Benefit the American Foundation for Equal Rights this week that he’s waiting until marriage is legal for all sexual orientations before he takes the vows.

Thank you Jason!

The leaders over at the National Organization for Marriage are pleased as punch with their efforts in Iowa that resulted in the ousting of all three judges that ruled marriage discrimination against the LGBT population to be unconstitutional.

In a mass email sent by NOM’s leader, Brian Brown:

All I can say is: Amazing. Last night NOM helped win stunning and unprecedented victories for marriage. And we know it was because of your support.

As you have heard by now, for the first time in the entire history of judicial retention elections in Iowa, the Supreme Court justices were defeated. And not just one, but ALL THREE judges up for retention who forced same-sex marriage on the state were resoundingly defeated by roughly 54 percent. Amazing.

Just goes to show what money can to. It bought Rick Scott the gubernatorial race in Florida and it bought NOM a “victory” against “activist” judges in Iowa.

Meanwhile, us hardworking, tax-paying LGBT Americans remain “less than”.

This is unacceptable and NOM must be stopped! The worst part of this is yet to come as NOM and its supporters are convinced they now have judges running scared and that supporting equality will NOT be something they’ll be willing to do in the future for fear of what NOM will do to them. NOM’s next move is certainly to support a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in the state taking that right away from Iowans much as they did in California with Prop 8.

According to a post on the NY Times:

The outcome of the election was heralded both as a statewide repudiation of same-sex marriage and as a national demonstration that conservatives who have long complained about “legislators in robes” are able to effectively target and remove judges who issue unpopular decisions.

Leaders of the recall campaign said the results should be a warning to judges elsewhere.

A warning elsewhere! We can NOT underestimate the power of hate!

What are you going to do?

Remember that silly little video where the National Organization for Marriage compared same-sex marriage to a storm that was going sweep across American reeking havoc and destroying the nation?

Well, there’s a storm alright, but it’s not equality…it’s NOM and their millions of dollars…

According to a post on Bilerico:

Terry Branstad overtook pro-equality Chuck Culver for Governor. During the Iowa gubernatorial debates Terry Branstad made it very clear he thinks Iowans should vote on marriage equality.

Republicans in the legislature will have to pass a constitutional amendment two years in a row before Iowa’s voters will have a chance to take away equality or do what’s right and solidify equality for years to come.

Read more here!

Now the BIG question is, what are we going to do about it?
